1998 is probably better forgotten as a sailing season - but we did manage to keep TideWinder in commission throughout the winter months - and to actually sail at least once in every month!
In the autumn of 1998 we visited Whitehaven just before the completion of the new Sea-Lock and opening of the marina - and a visit in a very calm, but very foggy January 1999, confirmed that this new facility would prove to be a regular watering-hole, especially as the Akash Tandoori restaurant passed the curry test!
TT Get-Away June 3rd - 13th
We used the extended school holidays to re-visit old hunts on the the Clyde
- via Bangor Northern Ireland, of course!
A
very fast tide-assisted passage saw us leaving Ramsey at 3pm and tied up in
Bangor by just 10:30pm - beautiful settled conditions, and a great sunset too,
got us off to a great start.

Bangor's always good for a visit -
and an Ulster Fry.
We
met up with Grandma & Grandad Dorricott - and enjoyed a walk around Great
Cumbrae - for Old Times Sake.
Rothesay
was a regular Friday-Night hop when we used to be based in Largs
Tighnabruiagh
in the Kyles of Bute is an incredibly beautiful anchorage.
Major
naval exercises were taking place in the Clyde - we saw HMS Illustrious off
Dunoon, and Sir Geraint was leaving Campbeltown as we arrived.
