Douglas

Approaching Douglas Harbour

Main harbour on the Isle of Man, and usually approachable in most conditions.  An uncomfortable swell sets in with strongish east winds, and the outer harbour is untenable in fresh/strong NE winds. Beware strong cross tide on the ebb just at the entrance - often causing overfalls in stronger winds.

The inner harbour is completely sheltered, and a new Flap Gate under the Lifting bridge will come into use in Summer 2001 which will allow vessels to remain afloat H24 on new pontoon berthing.  At present (Aug 2000) inner harbour dries out.  Pontoon on L/H when entering forward of tanker berth - is usually in position May-Sept.  Water & Electricity at Pontoon.  Fuel by can at Manx Petroleums nr Pontoon - but they have a reputation for not taking kindly to requests for the small amounts needed by yachtsmen.  Showers on "Tongue" in inner harbour at new Yacht Club premises.  Chandlers "Manx Marine" on N Quay - contact "Tony"  01624 674482.

Douglas Leading Line

Beware large vessels manouvering - and obey Port Traffic Signals.  24 hour watch on VHF Channel 12 "Douglas Harbour Radio"
